Hair Transplant Information

Introduction

Hair loss has always been an issue for many a man. Genetically, 75% men are due to suffer from hair loss. Women are less vulnerable with only 25% of the chance but they are also not completely untouched. Hair loss can be described as thinning, loss of hair and occlusion of bald spots. We know that a normal human being may lose 50 to 100 hairs per day. It doesn’t create a discernible effect as more or equal number of hair is simultaneously grown. But in senescence or other stages, our hair stops the growth which is known as Hair loss.

Hair Transplant

Body

Hair loss can be overcome by Hair Transplant. Basically, Hair transplant is different from plastic surgery. Unlike plastic surgery in which the whole epidermis is transplanted, hair transplant refers to transplant of only the layer which stimulates the hair growth. Hair transplant is the surgery performed by a specialist physician which is known as ‘Dermatologist’.
Hair Transplant is done by a simple measure. Here, a portion of the skin which still grows the hair is taken. It can be of beard, chest or pubic origin. Then it is transplanted at the place where the patient is suffering balding. The surgery is not just to cause the hair loss but it can also be used to embalm the scar caused by previous surgeries or accidents.
Common procedures followed
The procedure of hair transplant can be different from patient to patient. Here’s the quintessential treatment procedure:
1. Planning and assessment
The physician observed the scalp of the patient at their first session and advices the best approach to get reasonable results.
2. Surgery
A few days prior to the surgery, the patient is advised to stop taking medicines which may cause hindrance in hair grasp. The patient also requires stopping smoking and drinking is necessary.
On the day of the surgery local anesthetics are applied for the donor site and it is shampooed. It is given an antimicrobial liquid wash prior to the surgery in order forbid any chance of infection.
3. Strip Harvesting
Strip harvesting is a very popular measure in hair transplant. Here, a strip is excavated from the donor site and then augmented to form a technically realistic hair structure. The wound caused by the excavation will be healed in 2 weeks or less depending upon the nature of the patient.
4. Follicular Unit Extraction
Here small follicles are extracted from the donor site instead of a linear strip. So the scars this method leaves are virtually impossible to see. On the other hand this method is more time consuming and hence more expensive.
5. Post-operative measures
The recipient area requires being shampooed everyday as the scabs are to be removed. It requires being shaded from sun. Dressing of semi permeable fluid should be done on daily basis. The hair transplanted will be lost initially but the new hair will grow in 2 or 3 months. Although this loss can be prevented by taking some medicines.
 6. The Future
As we are living in a world which changes every day, the future techniques are just at an arm’s length. Stem cells and robotics are being researched to be helpful in hair transplant.

As the future technology is in incubator, we may expect less expensive, highlyproductive, and less painful as well as fast techniques soon for hair transplant. As we know about hair transplant now, the hair loss problem can be resolved.
